Sheri

Sheri is 58 years old and currently building a new chapter of her life at Restore Recovery.

Her journey into recovery began after the loss of her husband two and a half years ago. In the midst of grief, alcohol became her way of coping. Within six months, she received two DWIs—an experience that made it clear she needed help.

Her Story

Sherry entered a 90-day program in Brainerd, and while she describes it as “fantastic” and “phenomenal,” she knew her journey wasn’t finished.

“When it ended, I told them it wasn’t enough for me. I needed more.”

She went on to complete a one-year program in Rochester, where she continued to grow in her recovery, supported by staff who walked alongside her and reminded her that—with faith—healing was possible.

As she approached the end of that program, Sherry faced an important decision. Returning home wasn’t the right next step. While her home environment wasn’t unhealthy, it was isolating—and she knew she still needed the support of a sober community.

That’s what led her to Restore Recovery.

“I realized I needed to be around people who were loving and supportive. My home life was lonely. Here, I’m not alone—and I really appreciate that.”

At Restore Recovery, Sherry has found more than just a place to live—she’s found connection, encouragement, and purpose.

The women in the home support one another daily, whether that’s attending AA meetings together, sharing rides, or simply encouraging each other in their faith. Even small moments—like watching church together—have become meaningful parts of her new life.

One of the most impactful changes has been her involvement in the community.

“Before treatment, I had never volunteered at a soup kitchen. Now, I love it. Anytime there’s an opportunity, I’m the first to sign up.”

Through service, Sherry has rediscovered a sense of purpose and connection that had been missing.

Today, she is working in online education and pursuing certification as a pharmacy technician. With about nine years until retirement, she is focused on continuing to build a stable, healthy future.

And one day, she plans to take that future somewhere warmer—Louisiana, where she hopes to enjoy retirement (and maybe see a few alligators along the way).
